Maine Coastweek 2016 - Coastal Cleanup Day

BRI staff participated in Maine Coastweek's Coastal Cleanup on September 22, 2016. This event was part of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), which engages over 800,000 volunteers annually in removing litter from coastlines around the world.
BRI staff led a cleanup event on Mackworth Island, where we picked up litter along 3 kilometers of coastline, removing 5 bags of trash and even old furniture. The most common items found were plastic bags of dog waste, cigarette butts, fishing lines, and small bits of plastic.
