Minamata Initial Assessments in Albania

Albania signed the Minamata Convention on October 9, 2014. As International Technical Experts, BRI is assisting the government of Albania in meeting requirements outlined by the Minamata Convention to reduce mercury in the environment. These activities will complement efforts by Albania to significantly reduce the exposure of mercury to humans and the environment.

New Translations of BRI Mercury Booklets

NEW TRANSLATIONS OF BRI MERCURY BOOKLETS

BRI's booklets, Local, Regional, and Global Biomonitoring: Understanding Mercury Exposure through Monitoring At-risk Species, and Phasing Out/Phasing Down Mercury-added Products: What to Know about Consumer and Commercial Products Outlined in the Minamata Convention have now been translated to Albanian, courtesy of the government of Albania. Copies of these booklets are available to download in English and Albanian here.

The Republic of Albania is located on Southeastern Europe's Balkan Peninsula, sharing its borders with Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Greece, as well as the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea. It is known for its many archaeological sites and castles, such as the Kruje castle pictured above. Both agriculture and tourism are major sectors in the Albanian economy.
