BioDiversity Research Institute is dedicated to identifying threats to biological diversity in ecosystems. Through scientific research we provide decision-makers with the data necessary to make informed policy decisions that conserve resources and protect our environment. We are supported by leading governmental agencies, nonprofits and businesses, as well as by private donations.

BRI biologist prepares for a day of banding with Belizean biologists from Birds without Borders.
More than ten years of conservation driven research has brought us significant expertise in environmental toxins and bioaccumulation in organisms. Our information centers, The Mercury and Toxin Information Center, and the International Center for Loon Conservation, highlight these areas and provide a wealth of information.
Our research in different ecological sectors has been organized into four divisions: Freshwater Ecology, Marine Ecology, Wetland Ecology, and Terrestrial Ecology. Click on a division to learn more about our work in that area and see which of our nine research programs supports that division.
Biodiversity Research Institute has established nine research programs that support the research divisions. Each program focuses on a particular type of organism, and has a Senior Research Biologist as its director. These are: the Raptor Program, the Loon and Grebe Program, the Songbird Program, the Coastal Bird Program, the Wetland Bird Program, the Mammal Program, the Waterfowl Program, the Fish Program, and the Tropical Bird Program.
